Defence gets to finals

Edition 5006, April 19, 2007

THE ADF men’s over-30s men’s touch football team turned in an exceptional effort to make it to the finals of the Australian championships in Coffs Harbour from March 14-18.

ADF warriors won a tight semi-final 12-10 against Rustlers to qualify for the final against the Southern Suns, who had beaten Barbarians 12-0 in their semi.

Southern Suns proved too strong in the grand final, winning 12-2, with SGT Ivan Petrovic (Air Force) and POATV Nathan Softley (Navy) the scorers for the Warriors.

The tournament was the last engagement for the ADF senior men’s team for the year but the ADF men’s and women’s open teams will contest the NSW Country Championships in Dubbo on May 26-27.

Representative teams for 2008 teams will be selected at the ADF championships at RAAF Base Williamtown in November.
