Breakers glide into season
By LCDR Colin Pryde

Volume 50, No.4, March 22, 2007

GREAT START: Members of the Navy Breakers relax during the Bondi 10s.

The Navy Breakers rugby team rolled into season 2007 by competing with success in the recent Bondi 10s competition held from February 9-10.

The games were played over seven minute halves and the Breakers defeated Bobs 17-0 in the first game with tries to SMNET Dwight Shepherd, SMNCK Diri Nasalo and SMNNT Cameron Tipene.

Next the Breakers took on UNSW, defeating them 17-5 with SMN Nasalo adding another two tries to his tally.

The third game was against the Schooners and a hard-fought victory was gained against one of the best teams in the pool. The final score was 5-0 and again SMN Nasalo provided the winning try.

Unfortunately, in the quarter final the Breakers were defeated by the Colleagues 10-0.

The Bondi 10s was an opportunity to identify new prospects. Most, if not all players, have the potential to represent the Navy, if not this year, in the near future.
