'Hot battle for Navy tennis supremacy'

LCDR Steve “Tricky” Dickfos (816 SQN) may pick up plenty of tennis titles, but his singles ambitions sprung yet another “Leake” this year.

The annual Navy tennis championships, which have been contested for the past 40 years, were held at Randwick Barracks on February 7 and 14 for the Carr and Burrell Cups.

LS Robert Leake (HMAS Watson) won the Carr Cup by beating the 2006 singles winner LCDR Dickfos in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

It was the fourth successive year that the two have contested the final with LS Leake leading 3-1 in their championship deciders.

LCDR Dickfos had better luck in the doubles, teaming with LCDR Simon Levy (NASPO) to beat Mr Cornwell and Mr Butler (HMAS Kuttabul) 6-2, 6-0 and retain the title they won in 2006.

LCDR Dickfos has now won the Burrell Cup doubles competition nine times during his service.
