Get physical as a career

Volume 50, No.3, March 8, 2007

A career as a PT sailor is a challenging and rewarding one.

If you are an individual who would like to provide a service to others that physically and mentally stimulates and prepares them for life in the RAN, then this is the branch for you.

It provides opportunities to assist in the development of personnel in leadership, communication, planning and team building, by conducting or assisting in adventure training, initiative activities, individual and team sports, recreational activities and fitness training.

Personnel with two years seniority as an Able Seaman can apply via a PE 121 to transfer to the Physical Trainer (PT) category.

Personnel interested in a Transfer of Category (TOC) to the PT category should contact the local senior PT sailor (through the Divisional chain of Command) to arrange a two-week trial at the closest RAN gymnasium facility.

This initial assessment by senior PT staff allows the applicant to experience the roles and functions of the PT category and practice and undertake the requirements of the PT Suitability Course.

PT Suitability Courses are conducted in March, August and November each year and information and assessment details are available on the ADFPTS website http://intranet.defence.gov.au/navyweb/sites/ADFPTS/.

After successfully completing the PT Suitability Course, sailors Divisional Officers are to ensure that all TOC documentation is processed through DSCM (TOC cell). POC is Shaneene Brunton (02) 62651553, shaneene.brunton@defence.gov.au

Inquiries regarding TOC to the PT category should be directed to the CPOPT of the ADFPTS who can be contacted on (03) 5950 7909.
