COMFORT FOOD: Cooks from HMAS Toowoomba prepare Aussie packages for some of their Coalition allies in the Gulf.

While on patrol in the Persian Gulf, HMAS Toowoomba celebrated Australia Day by sharing the Aussie spirit with her new neighbours from the US Coast Guard and US, Iraqi and Royal Navies.

Each of the eight coalition units working alongside Toowoomba received an Aussie care package.

These were hand delivered by the ship’s RHIBs and contained items such as home made lamingtons, Tim Tams, Vegemite, XXXX, VB, and a Toowoomba stubby cooler.

An Aussie CD and booklet was assembled by ship’s company containing local facts and pictures, songs and poems, and some recipes for Aussie tucker.

Despite being a long way from home, Toowoomba got into the Aussie spirit by watching the victory over England in the cricket on satellite TV, self-adorned with Aussie Flags and face paint.

The crew then enjoyed an evening meal with a distinct Australian flavour.
