HEAVY MEDAL: PO Andrew Gibson with his Australia Day Medallion.

When POPTI Andrew Gibson was recalled to his old posting at HMAS Success (CMDR Andrew Davies) to sort out an incorrect AIU, he found a clear lower deck in progress, where much to his great surprise he was awarded the Australia Day Medallion.

“I’m absolutely stunned to receive this award,” said POPTI Gibson, who was clearly relieved that the story of the incorrect AIU was only a rouse to get him to the presentation.

POPTI Gibson’s next surprise was to see his wife Michelle, standing with the ship’s company, to watch CMDR Davis present the Australia Day Medallion.

CMDR Davis presented the medallion and other awards to members of ship’s company, prior to Success leaving FBE on January 29 for a 91-day deployment.

CMDR Davis said POPTI Gibson received the Australia Day Medallion in recognition of his efforts as Success’s PTI in 2005/06, prior to taking up his new posting as a PTI at HMAS Kuttabul (CMDR Mark Todd).
