| Last wish granted By Gunner Shannon Joyce Volume 50, No. 1, February 8, 2007 |
| A Vietnam veteran
from Humpty Doo has had his dying wishes granted, returning to the sea he
served on for 27 years. The ashes of LCDR Peter Dudley were scattered outside Darwin Harbour recently by close family and friends in a ceremony aboard HMAS Albany. In a passionate eulogy, President of the Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) Association of the Northern Territory Tom Davern remembered LCDR Dudleys drive and tenacity in times of despair. Peter was a bloody hero to a lot of TPI members, Mr Davern said. He fought for their recognition and raised TPI membership from 16 to 68 in the Northern Territory during his time as secretary. LCDR Dudleys son Andrew said his father was a very stern man, but very fair dedicating his final years to serving the TPI Association. He looked after his men very well while he served, and continued to fight for them long after he retired. Albany paused in its duties to carry out the ceremony. |
