It was the best of both worlds for LS Brent Best who walked away with two trophies at the Australian Defence Force Golf Association’s latest national championships at Canberra’s Federal Golf Club.

LS Best, of JLU, Fleet Base West, won the Navy championships with rounds of 81-85-77-79 for a total of 322.

He also won the National Regional Handicap Championship at the December event against the other winners of regional handicap events.

The CN VADM Russ Shalders, AO, CSC, RAN, was Navy’s net champion. Playing off a handicap of 11, he carded a 285.

The ADFGA overall champion was PTE Trudi Jeffrey.

In a first for the ADFGA, the Royal Navy Golf team was invited to play in the event, adding a new dimension to the championships.

During the championships, the ADFGA Combined Services team competed against the Royal Navy in an event that was decided over the four days of the championship, with the best seven scores from the team of 11 counting on each day. The ADFGA won by 45 shots.

The Combined Services team also played two other match play events against the Royal Navy leading into the championships. The match at St Michaels Golf Club, Sydney was tied, and the ADFGA won 3.5 to 1.5 at Gold Creek Country Club in Canberra.
