Australian Peacekeepers Memorial Project (APMP) received a $200,000 boost during its membership launch in Canberra recently.
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Bruce Bilson presented the cheque to APMP committee vice-chairman Matt Burke during the launch.
Mr Burke said the project aimed to build a memorial to commemorate past and future Australian peacekeepers.
“It will commemorate the sacrifice, service and valour of Australian peacekeepers, given in the same spirit as in other conflicts honoured in memorials across Australia,” Mr Burke said.
Former WA Governor LTGEN John Sanderson has been named patron of APMP, along with ABC presenter Geraldine Doogue and AFP Commissioner Mick Keelty.
The memorial will be unveiled on the 61st anniversary of Australian peacekeeping on September 14, 2008.
APMP encourages people to become members to assist in fundraising for the project.
