New name for triathlon

The Australian Services Triathlon Association (ASTA) has been renamed the Australian Defence Sports Triathlon Association (ADSTA). The name change was agreed upon by the ADSTA committee at the recent three-day executive committee meeting. During this meeting the committee saw a need for a complete overhaul of the association which included the renaming of ASTA and a re-write of the constitution.

Water polo rivalry
There were no hostilities – just friendly rivalry – as the ADF representative water polo teams had mixed results in their own recent Battle of Britain. The ADF Water Polo Association’s tour of Britain involved matches against the British Air Force, Army and Navy teams, as well several civilian teams. The men’s team registered six wins and five hotly-contested losses, while the women’s team had five losses playing as a women’s team and two wins when playing as a mixed team.

ACT eyes volleyball title
The ACT Defence Volleyball men’s team will seek to go one better at the Combined Services Tournament in Townsville from November 3-12 after finishing second last year. ACT also expects to enter a women’s team in its own right this year after fielding a composite team with Victoria in 2005.

Rugby meeting
Australian Services Rugby Union will hold its general meeting on November 3. There has been a call for nominations for the committee. For further information contact Dave Grierson at david.grierson@defence.gov.au
