Work safe week

Health and safety activities will be organised throughout the Australian Defence Organisation to raise awareness during Safe Work Australia Week on October 22-28.

This is a national week aimed at promoting workplace safety issues and encouraging employers — and indeed all working Australians — to focus on safety in the workplace.

Occupational health and safety is a top priority for Defence, from forces deployed on operations or on exercise, to personnel working in workshops or office-based environments.
Maintaining high standards of safety ensures capabilities are preserved.

The Defence Personnel Executive’s Occupational Health, Safety and Compensation Branch is supporting the week, and is encouraging people to get involved by conducting an activity that highlights a commitment to safety at work.

According to organisers, by participating in a safety event or activity in your workplace you could help reduce the number of work-related injuries or illnesses.
They say you don’t have to limit yourself to Safe Work Australia Week – you can demonstrate health and safety throughout the entire month or year.

Register your planned (or any previous) activities to share your commitment so others can see what’s happening in your area – registration also provides the opportunity to see how others are participating.

Visit the intranet site for more information or ideas on activities you could run and how to register: http://ohsc.defence.gov.au/SafeWorkAustraliaWeek/default.htm
