100 years in 26 hours
REMEMBER at school when instead of reading the book you’d try and see the movie instead? Well these are the DVDs you’d watch if you had to read about every major conflict of the 20th century.
Honestly, this collection is fantastic. But be warned, with eight DVDs containing a total of 26 hour-long programs, you’ll need to set aside an entire weekend to watch them all.
But it’s worth it, in the compiled footage are some absolute gems from archival footage dating back to as early as 1896 to full-colour Gulf War action. You get to watch rare images of ships sinking and zeppelins burning, to more recent footage of stealth bombing runs. This is all coupled with easily understood computer graphics and narration to tell the stories of each battle.
After watching it, you’ll have gained a good understanding of how warfare has developed and changed over time, and marvel at the huge casualty rates from the large sea-battles and trench warfare to today’s precision bombing. It really is a great way to learn more about the battles that have shaped recent history.
