Winner manages to lose the most

HAPPY LOSERS: Some of the contestants in HMAS Kuttabul’s weight loss competition, including winner POMT Sean “Paddy” Francis.

By CPOPT Marty Karow

HMAS Kuttabul’s (CMDR Brett Chandler) Biggest Winner Weight Loss Competition has come to an end with some truly amazing results.

Collectively, the Kuttabul 12 Biggest Winners lost a total of 145.5kg after 13 weeks of hard work, good nutrition, and a lot of fun and teamwork.

The winner of the competition and the prize of a Lifefitness electronic bike was POMT Sean “Paddy” Francis who shed an incredible 19.67 per cent of his original bodyweight, which equates to 23.5kg.
In second place was POB Scott “Dogs” Barker, who lost a massive 29.7kg at 18.62 per cent, and third was LS Kelly Abbott who lost 13.2kg and 14.67 per cent.

All of the other competitors were in no way saddened that they were not in the top three because they all achieved their own personal goals.

One of the highlights of the competition and the grand finale was participating in the annual 14km Sydney City to Surf fun run. Thirteen weeks earlier, none of the 12 Biggest Winners thought that they would ever participate in such an event, but they did, and they did it well.

Prior to the competition, few of these “winners” participated in individual exercises. Putting them in a team environment made a big difference to their motivation.
During those early days of the competition it was up to the Kuttabul physical trainers to harness that sense of teamwork and help to educate the competitors so that daily exercising or simple physical activity became a normal part of life.

These aspects of fitness and wellbeing are no longer a chore, but a welcomed daily habit.

The Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday fitness sessions focused on various moderate group activities, whereas the fortnightly Friday team challenges were more dynamic and physically stressful.
During the final and 13th week of competition the Kuttabul Biggest Winners completed their third and final fitness test.

Competitors completed push-ups, flexed arm hang, the beep test, a 1.2km run, and then attempted the sit-ups without having their feet held.
The final fitness test revealed some amazing results where most of the competitors had improved in most areas.

The competitors’ display of pride, achievement, satisfaction, and increased self-esteem during the final weigh-in was evident by the continuous beaming smiles on their faces.
Competitors said it had been a truly life changing experience, and one that both contestants and Kuttabul PTs would never forget.

Because of the interest in the competition, Kuttabul’s Biggest Winner 2 will be conducted from this month to December.
