BIG EYES: Nick Boulton and his son Kane enjoy Navy Week.

By Graham Davis

Staff of Naval Headquarters South Queensland conducted Navy Week Brisbane late last month and, in a word, it was a “wow”.

Hundreds of sailors, their families, VIPs, service organisations and members of the public were involved in the August 23 to August 28 program.
There were some “firsts” including the HMAS Brisbane Shield Corporate Challenge (see our full story next edition) which saw more than 128 athletes in 16 teams compete over nine unusual events.

FFG HMAS Adelaide (CMDR Tony O’Malley) made her first visit to Brisbane since 1992 and was scheduled to be the only warship in port. However, heavy landing ship HMAS Tobruk also joined in.
