All aboard for WA senator

VIP VISIT: Senator David Johnston, front right, relaxes onboard HMAS Arunta with some of the ship’s company.
Volume 49, No. 16 , September 07, 2006

HMAS Arunta welcomed a visitor of a different kind onboard recently when Senator David Johnston, Senator for Western Australia, embarked as part of the Navy’s parliamentary visitor program.

The annual program enables parliamentary members to work closely with ADF assets and learn more about what the RAN does.
The Senator received extensive tours of the ship and watched numerous warfare serials, while learning more about the procedures of the Anzac Class frigate and the officers and sailors who operate it.

“Being out here and seeing the sailors do their jobs is something every Senator should do,” he said.
Senator Johnston also inspected new equipment and capabilities fitted to Arunta during the upgrade program undertaken in 2005.
