On the attack
July was a busy month for Attack 5 embarked in Armidale. The crew successfully completed their work -up and were deemed mission ready, before proceeding on their first Op Resolute patrol. Attack 5 also conducted its first operational boarding on a 100m long vessel.
Cairns get ready
Ardent One Crew (LCDR Rod Newbold), the first Cairns-based Armidale crew, formed on August 7.
New post-ins from Sydney and Canberra welcomed the Cairns weather but the established locals complained about the bitter cold. It was 18 degrees. September will see DMS Platform training conducted in the lead-up to accepting NUSHIP Bundaberg in November.
Last time for Bendigo
HMAS Bendigo (LCDR Mark Taylor) has been on her final patrol, operating mostly in the Eastern Gulf of Carpentaria and Torres Strait regions. Although poor weather conditions made the going a little tough at times, the crew were in fine spirits as preparations continued for the decommissioning day, scheduled for September 9.
