HMA Ships Yarra (LCDR M. Treeby) and Norman (LCDR T. WATSON), and AUSCDTONE last month took part in the Western Pacific MCMEX/DIVEX 2006, an exercise in the idyllic waters of Malaysia’s east coast.

Over the course of the nine-day exercise, representatives from 21 Navies simulated the clearance of key Malaysian waterways, utilising state of the art technology and clearly demonstrating the increasing compatibility of regional capabilities.

Yarra and Norman again showed off their professionalism, efficiency and technical prowess, by locating and recovering six mines, as well as conducting a successful Mine Disposal Charge (MDC) firing.

MDCs are used for the explosive disposal of sea-mines, and are laid by the Mine Disposal Vehicle, a remote-controlled vehicle capable of locating, identifying and disposing of sea-mines.
