Kuttabul visits Qld
Sailors spread goodwill

A delegation from HMAS Kuttabul (CMDR Brett Chandler) visited the town of Kuttabul near McKay in Queensland recently as part of an important community relations activity.
The visit by 10 of Kuttabul’s ships company kicked off with pre-Anzac Day ceremonial duties at the local Hampden High School involving 650 students.

Next on the program was the visit to the impressive TS Pioneer where in excess of 60 Navy Cadets conducted uniform inspections prior to attending official ceremonial duties within the local community.

Kuttabul’s sailors then took pride and place in the Dawn Service that attracted many local community members.

Cut above the rest
Successful shave

A big heart for a worthy charity saw POMT Leon Auciello of HMAS Success (CMDR Steve O’Brien) do something he hadn’t done in 32 years. POMT Auciello shaved for the first time since 1974 in order to participate in the Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave last month.

POMT Auciello was last clean shaven in 1974, a time when the Vietnam War was drawing to a close, and the bulk of the RAN sailors reading this article were toddlers or yet to be born.

POMT Auciello joined some 100,000 people across the country who shaved or colour ed their hair to raise funds for people living with leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.

POMT Auciello shaved his beard and coloured his already white hair bright blue as part of Success’s commitment to help this great cause.
