Navy
had nine women and seven men included in representative teams selected
at the end of the Australian Services Rugby Championships at Vikings
Park in Canberra from May 28 to June 3.
Navy relinquished the mens title for the Wing Commander John
Caldwell Shield with a hard-fought 13-22 loss to Army and the Combined
Navy/Air Force team was edged 10-12 in an equally tough Commodore
Mick Dunne (RAN) Cup encounter both at Vikings Park on June 3.
A 32-strong mens representative squad was named and 25 in
the womens.
The mens team will play in the inaugural Pacific Cup Military
Challenge from September 10 to 17 at Vikings Park. At this stage
the Armed Forces of Fiji, Papua and New Guinea, and New Zealand
have indicated they will attend, while Tonga and New Caledonia also
are expected to compete.
The womens team will attend several development camps before
taking on teams from NSW Country, the ACT and Sydney at the same
time as the mens tournament in Canberra in September.
Navy representatives in the mens squad include: LEUT Tor Sorensen,
LS Jason Harrington, LS Shaun Megahey, PO Andrew Thorpe, LS Damein
Tanaka, LS Brad Simmons, AB David Harris.
The womens squad includes: MIDN Ashley Paine, SBLT Liz Quinn,
AB Tennielle Sullivan, AB Sara Mooney, LS Cassy van Rythoven, AB
Renae Woodward, AB Rebecca Manners, LEUT Kylie Schulstad, SMN Ellise
Holl.
