Dust off your skis

Volume 49, No. 10, June 15, 2006

Aspiring ski champions can take their first steps towards inter-service glory by contesting the 2006 Navy Alpine Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller in Victoria from July 30 to August 5.

The annual championship aims to enhance personal, mental, and physical qualities in competitors and foster team spirit, as well as developing skiers and snowboarders for competition at inter-service level.

Ships, establishments and commands are invited to send teams to compete at the championship for the Naval Alpine Sports team trophy. Teams must include a minimum of four skiers and two snowboarders (maximum of six skiers and four snowboarders). If insufficient numbers are available to form a team, individual nominations will be accepted and will be allocated to a composite team.

Teams and individuals will be competing for the following: team champion (overall), team champion (handicap), overall men’s and women’s champions, men’s and women’s slalom championships, men’s and women’s grand slalom championships, an overall snowboard champion, the Trevor Reeves Team Spirit Trophy and the Terry Nealer Award.
The program of events, race rules and safety management plan are available on the NAS website: www.navysnowsports.com.
