LEUT
Matthew Sekulitch proved best of all in meeting the challenges
of a changed course to win the Australian Defence Force Golf
Cup Championship at Wodonga Country Club Golf Club from May
3 to 5.
Significant changes stretched competitors from Queensland, NSW,
the ACT, South Australia and Victoria and the testing 6,289m
course made for interesting golf before LEUT Sekulitch won the
mens event from WO2 Tom Deveraux, with the A-grade net
going to FLTLT Andrew Tyson. WO2 Di Wolfe was the womens
champion.
Other winners in the ADF Cup Championship were: B-grade, scratch,
Mr Neville Hewett; net, MAJ Sean Faulkner; C-grade, scratch,
Mr Colin McCulloch; net, Mr Des Royal; Defence Civilian/Contractor,
scratch, Mr Karl Luck; net, Mr Ken Hoppe; veterans, Mr Jeff
Menz; novice, Mr Peter Gould.
The ADF championships incorporate the ADFGA NE VIC Regional
Handicap and the RAAOC Cup, with SGT Graham Parker winning the
regional crown from WO2 Tony Venables and the RAAOC Cup going
to Mr John Schaeche from Mr Colin Thompson, who also won the
retired members category. The womens event was won
by WO1 Beth Dippel.
Other RAAOC Cup results were: A-grade net, LTCOL (R) Rob Moule;
B-grade, scratch, Mr Kev Harrison; net, Mr Tony Lowe; C-grade,
scratch, WO1 Ted Senini.
Organisers wish to encourage more women and novices (players
without an official handicap) to compete in the 2007 championship
around April-May again at Wodonga Country Club and which will
be open to all full-time and part-time members.
The event again will incorporate the 25th RAAOC Cup and the
ADFGA NE VIC Regional Handicap.
The ADF Cup Golf Championship is the only ADF golf event that
allows service personnel to compete without having a recognised
golf handicap.
It is also the only event that invites Defence civilians, contractors
and retired members to participate as well.
As a lead-in to the military events, the first day was an ADF
Cup Golf committee-sponsored event for all ADF Cup Golf competitors
and golfing members of the SSA Wodonga Country Club.
