Volume 49, No. 9, June 1, 2006
Goal
Various artists
EMI

AT first glance you can tell this one deserves a red card. And I have no idea how they can really lay claim to all 21 tracks as being footballing anthems. But then again, maybe in some European nations they like to sing Hot Chocolate’s Everyone’s a Winner as they watch their team run out onto the ground. And I really don’t know where Monty Python Always Look on the Bright Side of Life fits in, let alone Jose Carreras singing Nessun Dorma.
It seems that all they’ve done is thrown in a bit of everything and labelled it with something to do with football in an attempt to cash in on the looming World Cup fever.

Western Dream
Bob Sinclair
EMI

I’M not sure what a love generation is, but French DJ Bob Sinclair’s feeling it. Not having associated Love Generation with the artist’s name, it first appeared that Western Dream was some sort of country music CD. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. It was a pleasant surprise to hear the rest of Sinclair’s chirpy tunes; a nice combination of mainstream pop, African beats and a little bit of French jazz thrown into the mix. Western Dream is a good little CD if you’re keen to get on the Bob Sinclair bandwagon and head out to the prairie.
