Navy personnel posted to HMAS Kuttabul (CMDR Brett Chandler) are singing the praises of the facilities at Endeavour House, which provides accommodation and significant recreational activities for junior sailors.

CAPT Bob Richards, Chief of Staff, Navy Systems Command, visited Endeavour House as part of the HMAS Kuttabul inspection recently.

CAPT Richards formally opened the Everyman’s Welfare Service Drop-In Centre located at Endeavour House and unveiled a plaque in front of a group of Endeavour House residents and visiting dignitaries.

The Chief Commissioner of the Everyman’s Welfare Service, Mr David Hawke, said Endeavour House provides accommodation for junior sailors posted across the Sydney area and to Fleet units. There are currently 476 residents with a capacity of 558 personnel.

The Everyman’s Welfare Service was established in 1940 as a not-for-profit Christian philanthropic organisation serving the ADF.

The organisation provides assistance with welfare and morale support through recreation centres and practical support to training and field activities.

The Everyman’s charter is to provide “welfare and morale support” through the provision of amenities and, more importantly, active care and concern by Everyman’s staff who provide a listening ear and a word of encouragement to Service personnel and their families.

The centre also provides and operates a dry recreation centre at Endeavour House and provides recreational items that offers residents a relaxed social environment as an alternative to the bar areas.

The Everyman’s representative at Endeavour House is Mr Glenn Loughrey, who brings extensive experience to the position, providing a valuable service to the residents of Endeavour House.
