HMAS Collins returned to Fleet Base West in early November after completing a long Full Cycle Docking (FCD) in Adelaide.

Commanding Officer LCDR Glen Miles said Collins returned to Fleet Base West after completing extensive sea trials following the FCD phase at Australian Submarine Corporation’s facility at Adelaide.

“The extensive sea trials phase following the FCD allowed us to really put Collins through her paces,” he said.

“The challenge of completing the licensing process and safety work-up with a minimum-manned crew was taken up with gusto by all onboard, and I’m proud to say that my team performed very well.”

LCDR Miles said he and the crew were looking forward to the challenge of getting Collins operational because 2006 shaped up as a busy year.

LCDR Miles said his posting as Commanding Officer of Collins continues a job that started in February 2001.
“I was briefly posted as XO of Collins when she entered FCD and now I have returned as CO, and it gives me a great sense of personal satisfaction to bring Collins back to the fleet,” he said.

“She’s a great submarine with a very sharp, close-knit crew and I feel very proud to command her.”
