The naming game

What better names for the new LHD ships than HMAS Australia and HMAS Gallipoli, two names that go hand in hand and appropriate for our new biggest warships.
When the new air warfare destroyers arrive, Brisbane, Hobart and Canberra can be revived.
Although one would like to see the names Vampire, Vendetta and Voyager return to the RAN some day.

AB Mark Starcevic

Logic on carpark

In response to a letter published in the Navy News (Talking Points, October 6) regarding car parking in the Woolloomooloo Car Park (WCP), Kuttabul Command would like to offer the following comments.
For occupational health and safety, and security reasons, a decision was made to improve access control for vehicles parking in the WCP and on Garden Island. The previous system had irreparably broken down, and was the source of numerous complaints to Command. The new system now allows Command to accurately track how many vehicles are on the base and who owns them and also ensure that everyone issued with a pass will be able to park.
Information concerning the Vehicle Management System (VMS) was widely disseminated via six “all ship, all shore” signals, in numerous e-mails and on the Kuttabul orders intranet site. Further dissemination is the responsibility of the divisional system to ensure that all affected personnel are kept up to date with the implementation of the VMS. This has been done in many locations but not at all.
To explain information previously provided, members may park in the WCP on the weekend if they possess a proximity card and there are parking spaces available.Members can request a general entry proximity card by writing to kuttabul.carpark@defence.gov.au. The email must include the member’s full name, PMKeys, work and mobile phone numbers, and the vehicle registration.

CMDR Brett Chandler

CO HMAS Kuttabul.
