Outlaw
Volleyball - Remixed
PS2 MA15+
The game: A volleyball game filled with odd characters and scantily
clad women that break into fights at the drop of your hat.
The play: The mechanics of the game involves a simple oscillating
power meter to gauge your serves, using targets on the court surface
to show where the ball is heading and giving your spikes more power
the longer you hold the button.
It is an easy game to pick up and play, but hard spikes are too
easy to return and its unusual that you cant return
a ball (providing youre in the right place) which makes for
lengthy rallies.
The drill mode is a series of minigames designed to improve specific
skills, such as serving, spiking, bumping and blocking despite
the sound of it, if you want to progress then youll need to
complete them and they can be both challenging and entertaining.
There are 12 game courts and a fair amount of unlockable content.
If things arent going your way then simply challenge your
opponent to a bit of fisticuffs to swing the game your way
unfortunately the fighting is simple consisting of a single punch,
a kick and a block.
The terrain: The environments are unrefined with very straight
edges and theyre covered with blurry textures.
Unfortunately all of the characters share the same canned animations
out on the court.
The default camera angle for the game is annoying as it struggles
to keep the action in the centre of the screen.
The experience: After a couple of games (Im being generous)
this title will either lose your interest or youll turn the
sound off to cease the annoying commentary.
