Salary
bonus for service
Fourteen
Navy employment categories have been added to the Military Superannuation
Benefit Scheme Retention Benefit, which pays one years pay
to eligible members who agree to serve for another five years.
To be eligible for the bonus, members must normally have attained
the rank of Petty Officer or Lieutenant Commander at their anniversary
of 15 years service.
Navy members who have not achieved the rank of Petty Officer or
Lieutenant Commander by 15 years, are able to receive the bonus
if they belong to a specified category.
For an employment category to be classified as specified, there
must be a low probability of its members reaching the minimum requisite
rank because of the career structure.
Members who are in one of the new specified categories listed, and
have passed 15 years of service, must elect by December 14 to receive
the bonus.
Members who have not yet completed 15 years service must elect to
receive the bonus within 90 days before their anniversary of 15
years service.
There are now provisions to salary sacrifice all or part of the
benefit, with the added option to salary sacrifice into MSBS.
