The boys in blue will be out and about on Western Australia’s Garden Island enforcing the rules of the road.

For personnel working on Garden Island, the sight of WA Police vehicles and booze buses on the Island will be a regular, but random, occurrence as they help the Naval Police Coxswains enforce the road rules. During a recent visit, 269 drivers, both defence and civilian, were tested.

Three drivers were detected with alcohol, but on further testing came under .05. Other infringements resulted in tickets for speeding, unlicensed vehicles and a yellow sticker for an unroadworthy car.

Commanding Officer HMAS Stirling, CMDR Paul Bartlett, makes no apologies for inviting the Western Australia Police to police Garden Island’s road.

“Far too many of our personnel think they are bullet proof and are prepared to ignore the road rules on Garden Island,” the CO said. “The Western Australia Police support in enforcing the rules is much appreciated.””
