Does
your organisation deserve recognition for the work being done
or can you think of someone who is making a significant personal
contribution to safety?
Chief of Navy is calling for nominations for the inaugural Navy
Safety Awards. The Navy Safety Awards are a new initiative, brought
in under Safety Management System - Navy (SMS-N) in late 2004.
They are unique to Navy and are not assessed or judged in conjunction
with any other Defence Safety Award schemes. As an integral part
of the generative safety culture sought by SMS-N, the Navy Safety
Awards provide a means to recognise and reward personnel and organisations
that make a positive contribution to safety.
The Awards have been split into four categories. The first three
are organisational awards whilst the last is for an individual
and attracts a monetary prize.
They are:
a. Chief of Navy Award for the best implementation of workplace
safety management;
b. Chief of Navy Award for the best organisational solution to
a specific workplace OHS risk;
c. Chief of Navy Award for the best ‘positive culture of safety’
training program; and
d. The Commander Dave Allen Award for an individual for the most
outstanding contribution to any aspect of safety in Navy.
Details of how to enter can be found in DEFGRAM 342/2005 and entries
close on September 30.
The Award Ceremony will take place at 2–4pm on November 8, at
the R1 Theatrette in Russell Offices, Canberra. Don’t be put off
by administration or the effort required to enter - your organisation
or your shipmates may deserve one of these awards.
The Commander Dave Allen Award is not just about recognition either,
there is a $1000 prize for the winner.
So don’t put it off, go ahead and enter and tell the Navy what
a great job your organisation or your shipmates are doing.
