The first phase of the ADF’s case for the Defence Force Remuneration
Tribunal’s DFRT) review of the ADF Flying Allowance was presented
a hearing held last month.
Witnesses attending the hearing covered a range of issues,
from the nature of aircrew personnel management, operational
tempo and new aircraft systems and platforms, to the changing
roles of officer and other rank aircrew.
This is the first time the ADF has presented witnesses to
the DFRT.
In a recent message, the Chief of Air Force, AIRMSHL Geoff
Shepherd, said at least two more hearings were likely to be
scheduled later in the year.
“It would be inappropriate to go into any detail about the
ADF submission at the moment as I do not want to pre-empt
the DFRT’s decision, nor muddy the waters with detail about
the nature of proposals that may not be endorsed,” he said.
AIRMSHL Shepherd said it was likely he would be called to
appear before the Tribunal in October, as he is responsible
to CDF and the Government for the coordination and management
of the strategic aspects of ADF aviation in addition to his
role as the ADF Air Worthiness Authority.
The review is expected to update the allowance package, which
was last reviewed in 1997. A decision by the DFRT is planned
to occur in December this year.
