A new elearning interface will enable Navy members
to access training more easily.

A
new Navy interface for e-learning commenced last month increasing
access to learning and courses. The Navy interface to CAMPUS,
the Defence e-learning capability, went ‘live’ on August
10.
CAMPUS features include learning and learning content management
systems that give access to courses; tracking trainees’
self-paced progress through them, and recording course completions
to PMKeyS. Navy members have been able to access corporate
e-learning courses such as Equity and Diversity and training
in the use of Microsoft Office software, on CAMPUS since
March last year, using a standard portal.
The new Navy interface now allows Navy specific training
for Navy members to be delivered via the DRN. What will
this mean?
To start with, Navy members logging on to CAMPUS will open
a personalised web page with a Navy ‘look and feel’. Although
there are not many Navy courses in e-learning format ready
to be installed on CAMPUS at present, a substantial amount
of training is being developed.
At least 11 courses or components of courses will be installed
during the next ten months. These include AMPS, SLIMS, RAN
Technical Administration, Ship Stability and components
of medical training and ATT.
The amount of Navy training available on-line is expected
to become substantial. Navy’s adoption of CAMPUS is the
first step towards making increased use of flexible learning
options in the delivery of Navy training.
On-line training delivery will also support improved geographic
stability under Sea Change by potentially eliminating the
need to attend face-to-face training away from posting locality
for some courses; and reducing the amount of time spent
doing such courses using a blended learning (part on-line,
part face-to face) approach.
Over the next few months the Defence Flexible Learning Solutions
agency, in conjunction with Navy, will be further developing
a unique Navy theme and interface that will accompany all
Navy courses that are accessed on-line.
