Technical sailors will get a helping hand to become better managers with the introduction of new competence training.

The Electronic Technical Certificate of Competence (ETCC) will help to assess the ability of senior sailors across the maintenance, administration and management responsibilities required to assume the duties of a senior yechnical manager in the RAN.

The ETCC is a prerequisite for the CPOATT course and subsequent promotion to Chief Petty Officer for all Petty Officer ETs with seniority of March 30, 2001 or later.

This requirement is explained in ABR 10, Chapter 6 and is more detailed in DI(N) PERS 75-43. Training sessions to ensure candidates in the Sydney and Perth areas are prepared to sit and successfully pass the ETCC oral board, have begun.

Training is in the form of presentations, group discussions and question and answer sessions, conducted every Friday between 8.15am and 10am at Fleet Base East and HMAS Stirling: All personnel attending are encouraged and expected to contribute to the training environment.

The sessions, in a group forum, will streamline the process of preparing for the ETCC board and thus provide significant help to candidates preparing for their ETCC boards.

MOTU will also conduct dummy boards as necessary.

The dummy boards will give can-didates added confidence prior to undertaking the ETCC board. A dummy board will normally be requested by the candidates’ WEEO prior to a recommendation for the ETCC board. The ETCC boards will be convened on an adhoc basis and will be chaired by the Fleet WEEO to ensure continuity.

The other board members will be a Charge experienced WEEO and a Warrant Officer or Chief.

  • Specific information regarding training sessions can be directed to WO Brett Reed at MOTU (WA) on (08) 9553 2431 or CPO Matt Hughes at MOTU (EA) on (02) 9359 2548.
