Helping hand: CMDR Peter Leavy presents a cheque for $10,000 to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The ‘Tartan Terror’ has been busy helping children in need, with a $10,000 donation in Sydney.

The crew of HMAS Stuart have received a letter of sincere thanks from the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation for the ship’s donation of $10,000. Rebecca Murray, Special Events Coordinator at the hospital, praised the crew of the Anzac class frigate for their innovative fund raising activities to improve the quality of life of sick children.

Ms Murray said “it is through support such as yours that the very brave children that are cared for and treated at the Sydney Children’s Hospital will directly benefit”. She said the challenge is to continue to raise millions of dollars for state-ofthe- art medical equipment, to financially support life saving services and training programs as well as medical and child health research.

Commander Peter Leavy, the CO of Stuart, said the crew raised the money throughout the last year and at the ship’s company cocktail party in December 2004.

He said one of the big money spinners was an auction of sports memorabilia donated by private sponsors. The items auctioned included signed photographs from Cathy Freeman, the Wallabies rugby team and Greg Norman.
