Sportex squash finals action fast and furious

By POPT S Sinclair,RN

In a tight on-court battle, Albatross squashed Kuttabul’s hopes of securing the 2005 SPORTEX Squash title, taking a finals win by two points in Sydney last month.

Albatross’ LCDR Colin Cook proved too strong in the final against a worthy opponent, FIMA’s AB Ryan Hastie. LCDR Cook’s experience saw him take the game, 2-0.

The squash championships were held at the Navy Indoor Sports Centre, Garden Island on Wednesday August 17 as part of SPORTEX 2.

Fifteen players contested the title, with two leagues, one of seven players and one of eight. Each match consisted of the best of three games.

The final, between Cook and Hastie, was a thrilling match for spectators, with some breathtaking rallies.

Both players had already completed 14 games each throughout the competition before the game, with just enough energy for the last. Cook went on to take the game, 2 - 0.
