HMAS Waterhen proved too good in this year’s Oberon Shield Basketball Championships, taking the title with a whopping 22 point win over HMAS Melbourne.

The Shield, part of SPORTEX 2, was a competition designed by the HMAS Platypus LSPT, Peter Rode, in 1987.

The idea was to invigorate Basketball at unit level for Navy personnel. This year’s competition saw eight teams compete in a double elimination draw.

The final of the 2005 Consolation Cup was battled out between HMAS Success and HMAS Watson, with Success defeating Watson by 10 points, the final score 32 - 22.
