The
designers of the US Navy’s capable Arleigh Burke Class destroyers,
Gibbs and Cox, have been chosen as designers of the RAN’s new
air warfare destroyers.
Defence Minister Robert Hill said Gibbs and Cox joins a team made
up of ASC Shipbuilder Pty Ltd, selected to build the AWDs and
Raytheon Australia, selected as combat systems engineers.
The first of the new AWDs is due to enter service in 2013.
