Navy bowlers far from striking out

Navy bowled Army and RAAF over at the ACT/ Southern NSW Lawn Bowls Interservice Championships, held at Queanbeyan Bowling Club on August 3-4.

PO Scott Gallon and CPO Paul Lamont won the ‘Player of the Series’ and ‘Navy’s Best Player’ respectively helping Navy to victory at the ACT / SNSW. Rain constantly loomed, yet did not eventuate. Navy were convincing winners over the combined Army/RAAF side.

Two of the Navy teams went through undefeated, both finishing with 4 wins and 75 shots. The skips of these teams CPO Harry Coulson and CPO Ray Sangster were well supported by their leads CPO Paul Lamont and PO Tony Howard and seconds PO Scott Gallon and WO Dave Adams.

The other two Navy teams won two of their four games with the two unfortunate Army/RAAF teams failing to register a win.

The Championships also doubled as a selection trial for the Australian Services Bowls Association (ASBA) Combined Services Championships in Queensland on September 12 and 13.

A team will be selected from these championships to represent Navy in the National Inter-Service Championships on September 14 and 15.
