Despite the Navy team’s best effort, the Army took the flag at the NSW/ACT Interservice Football Carnival at Randwick Barracks last week.

The Navy and Army teams faced off on Aug 5 in the close scoring final match of the carnival.

The game was quick and the skill level high with both teams having chances to score in the first half.

Navy took the upper hand with an early goal; the remainder of the half was enthusiasically played with both teams trying to gain control. The first half ended with Navy ahead one nil. In the second Army came out with hunger and started to dominate the game creating some very good chances to score.

Army equalised with a team goal as a result of some quick ball movement ending with a neat finish from the team’s captain Troy Perry. Both teams began chasing each other with both sides creating chances. Army’s strength and fitness started to overpower Navy.

Casey Sargeson gave a pin point long ball from to fellow striker Ben Neil who slotted home the winner to make to score 2-1 Army.

Man of the match Lucio Darocha. Army won their first match on Aug 3 comfortably against the RAAF 10 – 1.

The Army side played at a cracking pace in the first half and were up 8 nil at half time. RAAF had no answer to the quick pace and fluent skills of the Army side. At half time Army made five substitutions to rest some key player and give some experience to some new players.

The pace of the second half was not as quick, however control of the game was never taken from Army. Man of the match was the Army’s team captain Troy Perry.
