Chief reflects on RAN capabilities

By LCDR Antony Underwood

Resourcefulness of sailors and the fact that the RAN routinely operates across the length, breadth and depth of Australia’s interests mean the Service is well placed to protect the country according to the Chief of Navy.

“While each service in the Australian Defence Force is well able to provide various capabilities to cover each of the Defence environments, it is only the Navy which routinely operates across the length, breadth and depth of our interests,” VADM Russ Shalders told delegates at the opening of the 2005 King-Hall Naval History Conference on July 21.

He was speaking to the theme of the biennial confrence: Sea Power Ashore and in the Air.
