Apres Vous

Apres Vous
Madman

IT’S not often a romantic comedy’s main protagonists are male. In this warm French film, Antoine saves Louis from hanging himself. He takes Louis under his wing in case he tries to kill himself again.

He gets Louis a job at a swish restaurant, involves him in his social life and tries to win back Louis’ ex-girlfriend. In the process he falls for Blanche, the love of Louis’ life. It’s up to Louis to get his self confidence back, and have the courage to take what he wants, all the while honouring the kindness of his new friend Antoine.

This is a wonderfully light, fresh film with enough funny bits to call it a comedy and enough lady chasing to call it romantic. Worth a basket full of baguettes.

Zatoichi Meets the One Armed Swordsman (1971)

Zatoichi Meets the One Armed Swordsman (1971)
Madman

NOT to be confused with the 2003 remake, this is from the original series that propelled Zatoichi to become a Japanese household name and legend.

In this episode, the blind masseur with healing hands and a swift sword meets a one-armed Chinese master swordsman and a boy whose parents were murdered by corrupt samurai.

After agreeing to lead the pair to a temple, Zatoichi becomes entangled in a struggle to save the pair and the lives of others, only to later find himself pitted against the mysterious Chinese sword-master.

The plot is pretty average, but exactly what you expect from this genre, and great if you like lots of chop-em-up subtitled bloodshed.
