Naval
personnel have been recognised and awarded for their individual
efforts by the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor
Marie Bashir.
The awards took place at several separate ceremonies held
at Government House in Sydney. RAN members to receive awards
were:

CMDR Verran Dutschke – Awarded a Distinguished Service Medal
for his distinguished leadership as CO onboard HMAS Melbourne
during Operation Catalyst.

PO
Shane Dwyer – A Conspicuous Service Medal was given to him
for his service as cook onboard HMAS Ipswich and received
the award for this and for his outstanding service as the
LS cook in the Food Services Section of the Fleet Logistics
Support Element at HMAS Cairns.

WO David Baker – Decorated for meritorious service to the
RAN, particularly in the field of small arms and gunnery
training.

CDRE Geoffrey Geraghty – Received the order of Australia
as a member of the Military Division for exceptional service
to the RAN and the ADF as the Australian Hydrographer, Hydrographic
Force Element Commander and Head of the Australian Defence
Staff, London.

LCDR Paul Moggach – Received a commendation for Distinguished
Service for his performance of duties in warlike service
as the Sea King Detachment Flight Commander aboard HMAS
Kanimbla during Operations Bastille and Falconer.

CPO Paul Borgas – Received the conspicuous Service Medal
for outstanding service as the Chief Boatswain in the Fleet
Intermediate Maintenance Activity - Sydney, particularly
as the Officer in Charge of the Corrosion Control Section.

Anthony Borgo – Received the conspicuous service medal for
outstanding service in support of operational capability
as the General Communication Electronic Technician Sailors’
Career Manager in the Directorate of Sailors’ Career Management.

LEUT
Scott Houlihan – For distinguished performance of duties
in warlike service as the Navigating Officer aboard HMAS
Melbourne while deployed to the Northern Persian Gulf during
Operation Catalyst.
Award recipients also included Army, Air Force and civilians,
with the music provided by the RAN Band - Sydney
attachment, Australian Army Band Sydney and the Air Command
Band.
