HMAS
Albatross proved to be the pick of the teams during the recent
running of the prestigious Mons Cup rugby tournament in Sydney.
Eight teams, all from Navy, competed for the coveted title.
Teams travelled from Nowra, Canberra, Melbourne and Western
Australia to compete. The battle took place at Woollahra fields
2 & 3 in stunning Rose Bay on May 2 and was chock-a-block full
of action packed rugby.
HMAS Albatross were worthy winners, 24-0, on the day. They progressed
through their pool games with impressive wins over HMAS Ballarat,
ADFA, and a draw against a determined HMAS Parramatta/ HMAS
Waterhen team.
HMAS Albatross was full of confidence for the final, determined
to wipe out the mighty Parramatta/ Waterhen side. Both sides
went out hard and fast, dead set on avoiding the repeat draw
they sustained in their nail biting round one clash.
In the end, Albatross proved to strong for HMAS Parramatta/
HMAS Waterhen in a fitting finale to the tournament.
The CO of HMAS Kuttabul, CMDR Chandler was on hand to present
the HMAS Parramatta/ HMAS Waterhen team with the Wally Long
Plate for runners up on the day.
He was also full of praise for the outstanding rugby played
by all teams throughout the day, in particular HMAS Albatross,
presenting them with the Mons Cup Rugby trophy for 2005.
BZ to ABATA Sean Hegahey, who received the honour of the best
& fairest player in Mons Cup 2005.
