Instead
of purely dinky di local FM fodder, this double
CD set is full of international acts which may or
may not be your cup of tea. There are some great
songs on here which have justifiably become part
of Western civilisations’s popular culture – and
some pretty ordinary ones, which, because of their
sheer schlock value, are also classics. Turn it
on loud, tune out and remember Countdown on the
ABC – if you’re old enough.

dis bad teacha who wants his boys to learn and
dat’s the whole movie, like you know what I’m
sayin’. Freakin’ hey – well, if you freaks read
in rap and if you freaks talk like rap, then this
rap is for you. Even the homeys will dig this
bling.

A
mega concert held back in 1989 by the once-ageless
Peter Pan of pop music, Sir Cliff Richard – does
it deserve to be digitised and turned into a double
CD set? Hard to say – Sir Cliff hasn’t exactly
climbed the charts in the past decade so, other
than bringing a warm flush of nostalgia to your
mum, this would make two nice, shiny drinks coasters.

As
soon as the first fluff-free album from The Cat
Empire came out, fans had their claws out for the
next album. The wait is over and Two Shoes will
leave you purring with satisfaction. Recorded in
Cuba, the Cat’s sound is cheerful mix of Latin,
jazz and smooth alternative rock. Two Shoes gets
in your blood.
