Golfers get into the swing of things

This year the Australian Defence Force Golf Cup Championship was held at the Wodonga Country Club Golf Club over April 11-13, 2005.

The first two days saw the championship conducted with the third day being the usual friendly Ambrose Event that was also conducted at Wodonga Country Club as part of the Wodonga Country Club members competition. With significant changes to the course since last year, the competitors from Queensland, NSW, ACT, SA and Victoria were challenged by the course, which was at its full length of 6289m.

This made for some interesting golf that had all the competitors stating that they will return for the 2006 event.

Competitors were also treated to cut lunches during the day with BBQs and socialising being held at the Bandiana Golf Club during the evenings.

The ADF Cup Golf Championship is the only ADF golf event that allows soldiers, sailors, and airmen without a recognised golf handicap to compete in.

The ADF Cup Golf Championship is also the only event that invites Defence civilians, Defence contractors and retired Defence members to participate in as well. WGCMDR Glen Toscun (ADFGA), LTCOL Jane Spalding (Deputy Head of Corps RAAOC) and Mr Karl Luck (Total Rubber, Wodonga) were in attendance at the presentations to award prizes to the various winners.

Organisers wish to encourage more women and novice (players without an official golf handicap) to compete in the 2006 ADF Cup Golf Championship. When running an event such as this, sponsors are an integral part of the success.

The 2005 ADF Cup Golf Championship was proudly sponsored by Total Rubber Wodonga, ADFGA, DEFCREDIT, AWMA Amenities, the RAAOC Committee, Harvey Norman Albury, Brown Brothers Wines, Crown Promenade Hotel and Crown Event Sales, JS Printing, MAYNE Pharmacy and Safeway Wodonga.

In addition, the ADF Cup Golf Committee would like to thank the COMDT ALTC, Bandiana Army Golf Club and ESS for their generous support in the provision of accommodation and facilities.

The 2006 Australian Defence Force Cup Golf Championship incorporating the RAAOC Cup Golf Championship and the ADFGA NE VIC Regional Handicap Championship will be conducted at the Wodonga Country Club sometime in March/April 2006.

This event will be open to all members of the ADF, past and present, Defence Civilians and Defence Contractors.
