than 180 people attended the 2005 conference and reunion of
the Naval Health Services Association held at Brightonle- Sands
in Sydney earlier this year.
Primary activity was the conference conducted in the local RSL
Club.
This saw RAN commodore Michael Flynn, tell of his experiences
as a member of the first Australian medical team sent to Indonesia
after the Boxing Day tsunami.
CDRE Flynn, who is the association’s patron, was able to provide
a detailed resume of what he had seen and done.
Another noted speaker was CAPT Tim Madden who spoke on the proposed
medical facilities which will be needed on the RAN’s three new
air warfare destroyers.
Dr Keith Horsley, a consultant to the Department of Veteran’s
Affairs spoke on medical problems stemming from the Gulf War
while Mr Van Wyk, the CEO of the RAN Canteen Fund spoke of the
role of the fund.
