Live at the Apollo
Ben Harper & The Blind Boys of Alabama
EMI
Featuring the hit single There will be a light, Live at the Apollo is a gospelsounding album typical of The Blind Boys of Alabama. Ben Harper’s soulful voice adds an extra special element to the Boys’ sound and should interest a greater audience than just gospel enthusiasts.

Hotel
Moby
Virgin

With more instrumentation and less electronic bleeps and whizzes, Moby manages to make quite a departure from his previous works, yet maintain his signature sound. This is undeniably Moby, a good solid album held together by the heartfelt playing of this very talented oneman- band.

Yet I can’t help but scoff at the pretentious frustrated artist essays he always adds inside the album cover just stick to the music boss, you’re good at it.

Operatunity Winners
Denise Leigh and Jane Gilchrist
EMI Classics

Operatunity was a televised quest by the English National Opera to find two good voices, give them 12 months training and put them in an opera performance. Reality TV goes highbrow. The winners were Denise Leigh a wife and mother who is partially sighted and Jane Gilchrist who describes herself as a Tesco’s checkout chick. This is an album of some of the greatest arias and duets written for the human voice. This recording is a gem and if you had wanted to try opera but weren’t game, it’s for you. Highly recommended.
