Going..going..
gone

By LEUT Jason von Stieglitz

A face that many people in the Navy may know was touched by a razor for the first time in 19 years recently when CPOB Rod Waites, Buffer of HMAS Ballarat (CMDR David Hunter) shaved his beard off for charity.

CPOB Waites had not shaved since December 13, 1985.

He agreed to shave off his beard and the Ship’s Company willingly donated over $600 to donated to the Leukemia Foundation.

The fundraising was part of the Leukemia Foundation’s “World’s Greatest Shave”.

The “lucky” people who assisted in shaving off the beard were the Gunnery Officer LEUT Alex Gillet, who made the largest single donation and ABBM Stephen

“Gonzo” Nolan who won a raffle for the honour.

After shaving, CPOB Waite simmediately began the task of growing it back.
