Ship’s companies from eight RAN warships have taken part in an extensive force protection exercise at Fleet Base East.

As our image shows, the exercise was taken very seriously.

It shows sailors in a RHIB warning off a “protestor’s” craft found inside the restricted Defence zone adjacent to Garden Island.

Defence Maritime Services provided the protest craft and crew.

“The waterside intrusion was just one of the scenarios visited upon the sailors and their officers,” said LCDR Nick Doyle who was responsible for coordinating the exercise on behalf of Sea Training Group.

“In all eight ships with full compliments were involved in the overnight exercise which was designed to test the flotilla’s reactions against intrusion and protestors,” LCDR Doyle said.
