FAREWELL:
ADML Mike Hudson in his heyday.

The
Navy has bid farewell to one of its finest, with the passing of
ADML Mike Hudson (rtd) on February 27, in Sydney.
ADML Hudson began his career in the Navy after joining as a Cadet
Midshipman in 1947.
During his training as a Seaman officer, he specialised in Navigation.
During his career he commanded HMA Ships Vendetta, Brisbane, Stalwart
and Melbourne.
He also served as the Flag Officer Commanding her Majesty’s Australian
Fleet (Now known as Maritime Commander) and Assistant Chief of
Defence Force (Policy).
At the height of his career, he was appointed as the Chief of
Naval Staff commanding the Navy in April 1985.
While serving in this role, ADML Hudson was involved in signing
contracts for Collins class submarines, Anzac frigates and Paluma
Class survey vessels.
During this time, Navy infrastructure was overhauled, two-ocean
basing was commenced and service conditions were improved.
Shortly before his retirement from the Navy, he was promoted to
Four Star Admiral in recognition of his service.
He retired from the Navy after 44 years of service.
In
retirement, ADML Hudson acted as a consultant on Defence issues
to various companies as well as serving on the Navy League Advisory
Council.
He was also the president of the Naval Association of Australia.
A funeral service was held at Garden Island Memorial Chapel on
March 5.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
