With
the addition of a new of a new coach, the Harman Seadogs rugby
league side is hoping to put some bite back into their bark.
The Seadogs finished in the bottom half of the 13-team ladder
in last seasons George Tooke Shield competition. Coach POPT
Scott Gallon is confident they can climb higher.
“We definitely have a shot at the finals this year,” he said.
“That is ultimately our goal.”
A major threat to the hopes of the new coach and his Seadogs
is the reigning premiers, the University Scholars, and traditional
rivals, the Bungendore Tigers.
“We have an intense rivalry with the Bungendore side,” PO Gallon
said.
“When we face them, it’ll definitely be a grudge match.”
Rejoining the team this season are ABCIS Josh Hanson and LSEWL
Brett Sinclair, who both played for the Navy rugby league and
the ADF rugby league sides.
Sinclair, who had an injury-plagued season last year, is returning
fitter than ever as a result of his training to become a Physical
Trainer.
“He’s coming back fighting fit and he’ll be a great asset for
the Seadogs,” team manager LEUT Ty Douglas said.
“It was a bad year for the side last year, and our on field
performance didn’t reflect our off-field efforts.”
The Seadogs embarked upon a gruelling training regime recently,
in preparation for the season beginning in April.
LEUT Douglas is confident that with the lessons learnt from
last season, the side can turn the tables.
“We really came together as a close knit team, however, we couldn’t
pull it off on the field.
“But this year we have a new coach in Scotty and new focus,”
LEUT Douglas said.
